On June 18, 2019 HOPA and the AMCP hosted the Value of Cancer Care Forum: Pharmacy’s Call to Action at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. It was a full-day conference for pharmacists and other healthcare professionals to learn about and generate discussion on ways to achieve better value in cancer care, by increasing quality and reducing the financial burden of pharmaceutical treatments. Attendees learned from up-to-date use cases and information on value-based care models in oncology patient populations. They also gained additional insight into implementing value-based care in their practice setting. Attendees earned 6.5 continuing pharmacy education credits by attending the forum.
A white paper based on the Value of Cancer Care Forum is currently being developed, which will increase awareness about the market transitions to the value-based care payment model and highlight the oncology pharmacist’s role in value-based cancer care. The paper will discuss opportunities for pharmacists to increase their involvement in value-based care within health systems. Once completed, the paper will be shared with the HOPA membership.
