HOPA Hill Day 2024
HOPA Goes to Washington
The next step on our mission took HOPA in person to the U.S. Capitol!
On Wednesday, Sept. 25, HOPA members - including several patients, survivors, and caregivers - from across the country ventured to the nation's capital to partake in HOPA Hill Day 2024. There, they met face-to-face with elected officials and their staffers to advocate for optimized cancer care as well as the important issues facing pharmacists and cancer treatment patients today. Some of those key issues during this year's visit included:
- Looking for and supporting solutions to cancer drug shortages
- Supporting and cosponsoring the Cancer Drug Parity Act of 2023, which would bring oral chemotherapy parity by requiring group health plans to provide coverage for orally-administered and self-injectable anticancer medications at a cost no less favorable than the cost of IV, port-administered, or injected anticancer medications
- Supporting the Multi-Cancer Early Detection (MCED) Screening Coverage Act, which would open the door for Medicare to cover multi-cancer early detection screenings once they are approved by the FDA
WIth 38 total HOPA participants - including 7 patients and caregivers - attending 60 meetings and covering 24 states, this year's HOPA Hill Day was the largest ever!
